AEW Dynamite Preview

We’ve got ourselves a special Saturday night edition of AEW Dynamite tonight and as always a full card to look at. Full disclosure, I will be recapping both Dynamite and NXT TakeOver XXX tonight. Since Dynamite airs first and TakeOver is easy to watch immediately afterwards, I’ll be covering Dynamite first but I should be able to have full recaps of both shows by the end of the night. That being said, let’s see what’s on tap for this special Saturday edition of Dynamite!

TNT Championship: Cody (c) vs. Brodie Lee

Cody’s TNT title open challenge has been one of the highlights of pro wrestling this year. He’s faced all sorts of different competitors and generally had really damn good matches with all of them, the body of work has really been something. On this special night, he has a particularly huge opponent. Brodie Lee, the Exalted One of the Dark Order has wholly reinvented himself since joining AEW.

It’s maybe the biggest threat to this title we’ve seen so far. There’s no doubt it’s a special occasion. One would presume Cody’s got his whole entourage with him for this one, given that Brodie’s got endless backup. Spoilers are out there but I refuse to seek out any of that. My personal feeling is that Cody will keep this title until the time comes for Darby Allin to unseat him from it, so I’ll be predicting Cody to retain until that happens.

FTR vs. Private Party

This is a classic styles clash if ever there was one, and I personally actually like that vibe in matches quite a bit. FTR certainly know how to work with flashier guys and few are flashier than these two. Straight off their assault on the Rock ‘N Roll Express, you can expect Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler to be full heels in this match and it should be glorious. Being the heels isolating their opponents is when they’re at their very best. FTR over.

The Elite (Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks) vs. The Dark Order (Alan V Angels, John Silver & Alex Reynolds)

Kenny and the Bucks at one time were revolutionizing six-man tag team matches and regularly having some of the most spectacular trios bouts I’ve ever seen. To this day, it’s a bit exciting whenever they all get together for a trios match like this. While they are up against the three lower members of the Dark Order, they’re talented guys and this should be pretty fun.

Silver & Reynolds have particularly endeared themselves to the BTE audience of late which seems to have raised their stock within AEW to a degree. The last time they went out there it seemed like far less of a squash and frankly, it probably had a big part to play in them finally earning contracts. But of course, The Elite are winning this match.

Women’s Tag Team Tournament Finals: The Nightmare Sisters vs. Diamante & Ivelisse

It hasn’t exactly been an award-winning tournament but the semis were definitely a marked improvement on the first round and hopefully the finals here can impress on the big stage. Brandi and Allie are funny, at first Allie was naturally the heel that wasn’t trusted due to her past, but over time that’s morphed and Brandi’s been the one aggravating her with her perpetually swelling head.

She won’t shut up about being the ONLY woman in AEW with an action figure, most notedly, and it’s been suggested that she put this tournament together purely to give herself an accolade. To me, it’s setting up a big fall here in this match. Diamante and Ivelisse get the big win to establish them as a real team and as important parts of the women’s division, and the Nightmare Sisters have their inevitable split and feud.

The Lucha Bros & The Butcher & The Blade vs. The Natural Nightmares & Jurassic Express

What an eclectic mix of talent. I really do appreciate this tag division. It seems like there’s a consistent alliance with the Lucha Bros and the Butcher & The Blade. Maybe the Death Triangle is gonna end up being a Death Pentagon when Pac returns! Eh, would get a little confusing, maybe… but given this, I think the heels would have the advantage here. Lucha Bros & Butcher & Blade to win.

Also: Darby Allin in action, Orange Cassidy to speak.
